Overview:

Hempstead May has an exciting opportunity for a confident and experienced Senior Retoucher to head a small team of creative retouchers from our London office. The role will work very closely with the Creative Director and Production Manager whilst acting as the key point of call for all in-house and freelance retouchers.

Working in association with May Print, a drum-scanning and print house, as well as Have a Butchers, our gallery and concept store, the team here is a holistic and creative hub, with an emerging moving image department.

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum 5 + years working in post production and ideally will have previous agency experience, managing a team of retouchers with a strong ability to manage workflow and deadlines. You’ll be confident in delivering images to an extremely high standard, whilst following specific internal structures and packaging through to delivery.

This is a dynamic and fast paced role where you will continuously and accurately respond to feedback whilst creating high-standard imagery. You should be a highly skilled fashion retoucher with an ability to develop the skills of a wider team, acting as a role model showing both enthusiasm and strong leadership.

Job Description: 

  • Delivering high quality retouching and colour corrected imagery for a wide range of print and online based projects 

  • Work to consistently high standards with minimal amends 

  • High level colour matching and cosmetic retouch skills 

  • Skilled composite image maker with a keen eye for detail 

  • Strong workflow methods and show initiative within the role 

  • Comfortable managing a small team and freelancers

  • Meet daily output targets set by Production 

  • Show ever improving results in your work and within allotted time frame

  • Carry out calibration of equipment and maintenance routines for department

  • Liaise with Production team daily to coordinate teams and jobs

  • Make improvements/changes where necessary to ensure high volume of productivity 

  • Communicate regularly with Company Director to discuss and improve on current and future opportunities 

  • Train and induct new personnel as necessary 

  • Our standard workweek is Monday to Friday. However, please note that some evening and weekend work will be required, depending on project demands and deadlines.

  • Occasional location work with flexible hours 

  • Excels in high-pressure environments and maintains composure and professionalism when unforeseen challenges arise.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Retouch product photography images to a consistently high standard

  • Ensure colour consistency between image and physical product

  • Follow specific internal file – structure and server organisation

  • Adhere to creative direction set by the client and overseen by Production

  • Name and maintain digital asset file/structure organisation and upload images to web servers 

  • Create round jpegs, high res and final deliverables maintaining file size, specs and crop guides. 

  • Taking a consistent approach when editing large batches of imagery

  • Perform quality checks on all images and creating internal markups as required 

  • Be responsible for completion of work to daily and weekly deadlines

  • Be proactive and able to show initiative/ideas to constantly improve the service of the Retouch Team 

  • Carry out ad hoc duties within art department/editorial when required

  • Provide support to other team members, working across London and NY jobs

  • Liaise with other departments involved in the studio process

  • Ensure that production team are updated regularly as to productivity levels

Development of the Role: 

  • Be proactive in offering ideas/solutions that will assist HM in delivering an excellent service and sustain a competitive advantage within the industry

  • Work as a team player to develop the Retouch team and increase efficiency/productivity 

  • Work alongside Creative Director and Lead Retoucher on any training and development 

  • Potential of remote working

  • This role offers growth potential, with the opportunity to advance to the position of Lead Retoucher based on performance and leadership qualities.
